¹⁴We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

1 Samuel 30:14World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

A young Egyptian tells David that his group raided Judah’s territory and burned Ziklag.

To understand

His Amalekite master abandoned him when he became sick. Before agreeing to lead David to the group, he asks for an oath that David will neither kill him nor return him to his master.

A question

What protections does the young man ask for before guiding David?
