⁵Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but even more that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.

1 Corinthians 14:5World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

The writer values prophecy because it builds up the gathered community.

To understand

Speaking another language can also benefit the assembly when it is interpreted. The next verse asks what a visit would offer without revelation, knowledge, prophecy or teaching.

A question

What allows speech in another language to build up the assembly?
