¹⁴how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Hebrews 9:14World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

The letter describes Christ offering himself without defect to God through the eternal Spirit.

To understand

His blood is said to cleanse the conscience from dead works for service to the living God. The argument compares this with the fleshly purification associated with animal blood and a heifer’s ashes.

A question

For what service is the conscience described as being cleansed?
