¹¹For my own sake, for my own sake, I will do it; for how would my name be profaned? I will not give my glory to another.

Isaiah 48:11World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

God addresses Jacob and Israel after describing refinement in a furnace of affliction.

To understand

The speech gives God’s own sake as the reason for his action and says he will not give his glory to another. This address to Jacob and Israel does not establish why an individual reader suffers.

A question
