2 Samuel 11:9World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

Uriah sleeps at the king’s door with the servants and does not go down to his own house.

To understand

David had told him to go home and wash his feet, and sent a gift after him. When told where Uriah slept, David asks why he did not go home after his journey.

A question

What difference between David’s instruction and Uriah’s action leads to David’s question?
