John 11:52World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

The narrator describes Jesus’ death as gathering God’s scattered children into one.

To understand

He identifies the preceding words of the high priest as prophecy about Jesus dying for the nation. The next line records a decision to put Jesus to death, while the narration describes a wider gathering.

A question

How does the reference to scattered children widen the account of dying for the nation?
