¹⁶For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.

Obadiah 1:16World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

The speech pictures all nations drinking and swallowing until they become as though they had not existed.

To understand

The preceding warning says deeds will return on the doer's head. The next line describes escape and holiness on Mount Zion, setting the nations' fate beside that of Jacob's house.

A question

How does the image of drinking continue the warning that deeds return to their doer?
