¹⁸But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—

Luke 23:18World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

The crowd cries out together for this man to be taken away and Barabbas to be released.

The account has just mentioned releasing a prisoner at the feast. It then identifies Barabbas as imprisoned for a revolt in the city and for murder.

What does the description of Barabbas add to the crowd’s demand for his release?
