¹⁴The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Susa; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

The scene

The king orders Esther’s request carried out, and Haman’s ten sons are hanged.

To understand

Esther’s request in the preceding verse includes another day under the decree in Susa. The next verse records more killing on the fourteenth day of Adar and says the Jews did not take the plunder.
