⁶Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

1 Kings 3:6World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

In his answer to God, Solomon recalls the kindness shown to David and the son now seated on David's throne.

To understand

God has asked what Solomon wishes to receive. Solomon begins with his father's conduct, then describes himself as a little child who does not know how to go out or come in.

A question

What does Solomon acknowledge before describing his own lack of experience?
