The scene

Absalom tells a man seeking judgment that his case is right but that the king has appointed no one to hear him.

To understand

Verse 2 places Absalom by the gate, calling to people with cases for the king. In verse 4 he wishes aloud to become judge so that people would bring their cases to him.

A question

How does Absalom's comment about the king prepare for his wish to be judge?
