¹⁸Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

Matthew 10:18World English Bible, Protestant Edition

The scene

Jesus warns his disciples that they will be brought before governors and kings because of him.

To understand

This warning follows arrests and beatings in verse 17. Jesus calls the appearance before rulers a testimony, then addresses worry about what the disciples will say.

A question

How does calling this appearance a testimony affect your reading of the warning?
